A new British government initiative will give parents the chance to initially set up their computers so than no porn sites are allowed. Under the plan, all internet pornography will be blocked unless specifically requested, thus allowing safe surfing for children. Once parents have opted out of pornographic sites the URLs will be blocked at server level, a more secure option than using parental controls supplied by ISPs. Adults who wish to view porn sites will have to opt in.
Following a decision to opt out, parents will then be able to choose suitable sites for home viewing from a rated cinema-style guide giving options such as 18 for adults or U for all ages. The move comes as talks are being set up between the UK’s broadband providers and the government’s Communications Ministry.
TalkTalk, Virgin Media and BT are to meet Communications minister Ed Varney to devise a way to control access to online porn by children. Mr Varney considers the problem to be serious and will be urging the broadband providers to come up with an answer before legislation becomes necessary.
A recent successful trial by ISPs which prevented innocent internet users from accessing child porn sites by accident may provide hope for an expansion of the technology used to include all porn sites accessible by youngsters. A survey carried out earlier this year indicated one in every three 10-year old children had viewed adult porn sites.
Tory MP Claire Perry, campaigner for restrictions, believes ISP will not regulate themselves on this matter unless leadership is shown by the government. On a previous occasion, ISPs had said restriction would be technically difficult and expensive to institute. However, some providers now seem to have changed their minds.
This can be save kids from dangers little because already CAfcass, Social Services and Families Forward lets kids abused, however at list this can help alot because social services killed more than 43 kids regarding to British Media reports.
